To help meet the need for reliable electricity throughout the world, URS designs, constructs, retrofits and maintains virtually every type of power plant, as well as the systems that transmit and distribute electricity.
Our expertise includes coal-fired, gas-fired and nuclear power plants, as well as alternative and renewable energy projects. We have engineered and/or constructed more than 250,000 megawatts of electricity worldwide, including many of the world’s hydroelectric projects.
URS delivers cost-effective and environmentally sound services, solutions and operating systems. Our full lifecycle services range from planning, siting, licensing and permitting through engineering, procurement, construction and construction management to facility start-up and operations and maintenance. We also provide decommissioning and closure services for facilities that are no longer in use.
In the area of project development, we provide services that cover all aspects—from resource evaluation and pre-investment studies through to the detailed design of works and the supervision and project management of construction. We also provide comprehensive assistance to clients in the arrangement and appraisal of project financing plans, including mixed international lending agency and commercial banking finance.
In addition, URS offers comprehensive environmental, engineering and construction services to help clients develop efficient, cost-effective alternative fuel and renewable energy systems, including design studies and engineering for an assortment of alternative and renewable energy sources—solar and solar thermal systems, geothermal power, hydropower facilities, wave energy studies, wind farms, biomass projects, municipal solid waste conversion, and coal and waste gasification technologies.
