Our work in the planning, permitting, design, construction and commissioning of fossil fuel facilities includes more than 200 coal-fired projects and more than 300 oil- or gas-fired combustion turbine-generating units totalling more than 100,000 megawatts worldwide. Our role has covered EPC and EPCM project delivery, Owners Engineer consultancy/project management, and operational support. Our experience covers the largest plants in operation globally, including major power/desalination projects.
In addition to new build, URS designs and implements operating plant modifications and maintenance programmes that reflect cost-effective technical proficiency. We are fully experienced in the complex range of fuels and integration of support systems that keep power facilities efficient and clean, and we provide services for clean-air retrofits and waste-to-energy projects. For example, we have installed 40,000 megawatts of flue-gas desulphurisation (FGD) systems (19,000 megawatts grassroots units and 21,000 megawatts of retrofit projects).
